Today’s Reason To Drink

Today is the 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. Thank the lords for the repeal … or this column might be called ChurchBelles or Speakeasy Belle. Probably the latter. I’m sure I’d have my own operation running out of my basement. And I’d have code words like “black rabbit” and “my friends say hi.”

For this very special occasion, Proof on Main has a slew of Prohibition-inspired cocktails (no, that’s not code for water). Repeal day in Kentucky was particularly celebrated, because it meant our bourbon distilleries could fire back up.

“With the bourbon trade, the repeal of Prohibition was cause for special celebration in Kentucky,” says Proof general manager Brooks Reitz. “It marked a time in history when the Bluegrass State could again be free to embrace its most enjoyable commodity.”

Below is a list of some of the featured cocktails. I also hear that if you say the words “blind tiger,” you might get it for cheaper. Cool.
