So I’ve gotten two things so far off my Christmas list. Well, make it three, kinda. While my awesome reader Latricia doesn’t claim to “cure” a hangover, she offers this wonderful remedy to combat it. I’ll have to give it a try on New Year’s Day. Here’s what she wrote:
Well, I can offer you one of the items on your list.
The following breakfast is a gaureenteed hangover cure. Have it along with a cup of coffee, and you should soon be good to go. The soup is pretty easy to make for dinner, and yummy, too; but probably a bit too much trouble when you are hung over. make it the night before, before you know you are going out to tie one on, and put it in the fridge. then just nuke yourself a bowl right after you nuke the water for the flu-tea, here renamed hangover tea.
Hangover Tea:
1 large cup steaming hot water
1 bag of theraflu
1 tsp of honey to sooth the stomach
1 asprin, the old fashioned, real thing, crushed (I keep goodies headache powders on hand, for this and for feeding cut flower, they are already crushed. Use the flovored or sparkling ones if you like, its all the same, just asprin)
6 orange flavored vitamin C tabs, crushed
Stir everything into the water. reheat and stir some more, until it is all disovled, then drik it while your soup heats up for breakfast. When you are done with your tea and still waiting for breakfast, suck on a pepperment, the plain old white and red christmas candy kind. or a candy cane. It will help by bringing your blood sugar up, and the mint will settle your stomach. With breakfst, I recomend a cup of coffee, and a cup of hot tea (I would suggest pepperment tea, to soothe the stomach), and a glass of orange juice, to boot, if you have it. half of a hangover is dehydration, anyway, so drink till your eyeballs float out in front of you and you can get a good look at how red they are.
Hangover Soup:
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can saurkraut
1 can chicken broth
1 link sausage, chopped up
4 slices of bacon, diced
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp dried onions
1 TBLSP brown sugar
1 apple, preferably green or yellow, cored and chopped. and peeled, if it is red, or if you just prefer to peel it
1 can of diced potatoes, drained
1 can of mushrooms, drained (opt)
Brown the bacon, unless you are using the precooked kind, then just cut it up. add the onion, garlic, apple and sugar to the pan with the bacon. If you are using precooked bacon, you are going to need a nub of butter, too. stir it around for a minute till the sugar begins to melt. Add the remianing ingredaints. Heat through, then let simmer for a while so the flavor can mellow out. Now put it in a tupperware and put it in the fridge for tommorrow.
Mostly the deal is the salt helps with the dehydration, i think, but it does wonders, i hear. and, i can personally attest, it is VERY Good, way better than it sounds.
Happy NYE!
Another hangover remedy, the basic Bloody Mary:
2 shots Absolut Peppar vodka on ice, fill the rest of the glass with tomato juice. Add hot sauce, pepper, salt, soy sauce,, a squeeze of lime, and an olive or two. Drink this with a glass of juice or water (I like water with a lemon squeezed into it.)
My friend Kate gave me a complicated recipe vaguely concerning gatorade, vodka, and mountain dew. It works pretty well, too, but I think I put too much vodka into mine.
