“My heart was a hysterical, unreliable organ.” —Vladimir Nabokov in “Lolita”
Was the Tin Man really that bad off by not having a heart? It seems the heart causes more undue stress than any other organ. The heart wants what it can’t have. It falls in love with the wrong people. Sometimes it falls in love as they are walking away. It holds onto grudges and memories tightly. When it’s happy, you can’t contain yourself. When it’s heartbroken, you lose yourself.
The only way to comfort a hurt heart is time. A quick fix is vodka. But be careful. One too many, and the heart rages, pushing out tears and playing up fears.
There’s no crying at the bar. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
