Today’s Reason To Drink

Never a dull moment with Bill Samuels Jr.

Never a dull moment with Mr. Bill Samuels Jr.

Well, the Bourbon Classic has begun, which means I’m on a whirlwind tour of bourbonism. Three days of distillery tours followed by special events at night — thank goodness my liver didn’t see its shadow this year.

First up was the Topshelf event last night with Pappy Van Winkle bourbons at Butchertown Grocery. And today, we spent the morning at Barton 1792 Distillery and Maker’s Mark.

The legendary Bill Samuels Jr. gave us a personal tour around his family’s distillery and dropped many stories about Col. Sanders, Little Richard and what it’s like to grow up on a bourbon distillery.

Tomorrow, it’s Buffalo Trace, then judging a mint julep contest, and then an Old Forester Bottled-In-Bond speakeasy party.

Sleep. Sleep is good.
